The marine biological field station of RSEC in Dahab, South Sinai, Egypt is looking for participants and volunteers for reef conservation programmes, biological courses and expeditions, especially students of biology and related fields. Einzigartig in Frankreich und Europa, möchte sie auf ein alarmierendes Phänomen im Mittelmeer aufmerksam machen: Verschmutzung durch Mikroplastikteilchen - diese quasi unsichtbare Umweltverschmutzung droht nun in die Nahrungskette zu gelangen. Nach ersten Analysen des renommierten französischen Instituts für Meeresforschung Ifremer zusammen mit der belgischen Universität Liège können wir abschätzen, dass ungefähr 250 Milliarden treibende Mikroplastikteilchen die Oberfläche des Mittelmeeres verschmutzen. Wird das Mittelmeer zu einer "Plastiksuppe", die von Fischen und Plankton an der Basis der Nahrungskette aufgenommen wird ?
